Loctite GC 10 is the first-ever solder paste that can be stored at up to 26.5 degrees Celsius for as long as one year, and at up to 40 degrees Celsius for one month. This cuts energy consumption and reduces waste by eliminating the need to transport or store solder pastes in refrigerated conditions. This also removes the need for air freight.
In addition, its wider process window and easier handling lead to lower end-of-line defects.
Our experts worked together with Ford to customize our Bonderite M-NT two-step process: a metal pre-treatment system that acts as a base for applying paint and protects against corrosion. Our customized technology replaces traditional zinc phosphating processes, which require laborious treatment of contaminated wastewater and disposal of sewage sludge containing phosphorus. It makes it possible for Ford to cut waste and reduce energy consumption in its processes and is suitable for use on vehicle chassis containing up to 100-percent aluminum. This opens up new possibilities for increasing the amount of lightweight metals used, reducing overall vehicle weight and cutting vehicle emissions.
Our Loctite Composite Repair System can extend the lifetime of steel pipelines in the oil and gas industry by up to 20 years. Experts from Henkel worked with the customer to conduct collaborative innovation activities. This led to the refinement of Henkel’s advanced technologies for repairing pipes that transport gas, water, crude oil and wastewater, which reduces the need to manufacture and install replacement pipes.
Health and safety is a key concern for our customers: As a global leader, we actively drive standards worldwide by removing critical ingredients from our products. Tangit Rapid, our new solvent-free adhesive for bonding pressure pipes made of polyvinyl chloride (PVC-U/C), such as those for drinking water, is a key example of this approach. It is the first ever solvent-free adhesive for use on drinking water pipes and offers improved reliability for professional craftsmen while also delivering best-in-class curing time and bond strength.
Pritt liquid glue is now based on a new formula that is even safer for children to use. Like the popular Pritt glue stick, the range of liquid glues is solvent-free and now also based on 90 percent natural ingredients – thanks to the use of starch.
Bonderite Magnesium Coating (MgC) process is an innovative Electro Ceramic Coating (ECC) technology used to apply protective coatings to magnesium alloys. Building on success in the market for automotive body panels, Bonderite MgC is now being used in light-metal applications for consumer electronic devices. The sustainable technology decreases carbon footprint by simplifying customers’ production processes.
Henkel continues to expand its halogen-free materials portfolio with the launch of Loctite Multicore HF 212, a halogen-free, lead-free solder paste ideal for today’s high-value PCB assemblies. Like Henkel’s other halogen-free formulations, Loctite Multicore HF 212 contains zero deliberately added halogen and is under the limit of detection for chlorine and bromine when subjected to rigorous testing. With consistent print performance and minimal hot slump – even in regions with temperatures that exceed 86 degrees Fahrenheit (30 degrees Celsius) and relative humidity (RH) as high as 80 percent – Loctite Multicore HF 212 offers exceptional stability and environmental adaptability.
Due to their immediate effect, hotmelt adhesives are used to close cartons and form trays in many consumer goods industries. Millions of such cartons and trays are produced every day to fill the shelves in supermarkets in the food industry alone. Packaging machines filling and closing the cartons are running at high speed and call for adhesives that optimize line efficiency and close the packaging securely until they reach the end consumer. Conventional hotmelt adhesives are applied at up to 190 degrees Celsius. This is an energy intensive process as well as a potential source of burn accidents in production. With the Technomelt Supra Cool technology Adhesive Technologies developed a new generation of hotmelt adhesives based on carefully selected raw materials that allows our customers to operate their lines at high speed and apply the adhesive at only 100 degrees Celsius. This leads to energy savings of up to 5 percent, increases the safety for their operators and protects temperature-sensitive products like chocolate or frozen foods from excessive heat at the same time.
Labeling adhesive is one of the first product lines Adhesive Technologies is offering since 1922. Traditionally, the main raw material base for glass labeling adhesives is casein, a milk derivative. This raw material offers a variety of practical benefits ranging from good ice and condensation water resistance to easy wash-off in recycling. The global consumption of dairy products is however increasing and Adhesive Technologies set out to develop its own polymer with the goal to restrain from using edible resources. Aquence XP is the casein-free product line based on polymers that are produced by Henkel itself. The right product can be chosen from the range to match the increasing needs regarding speed, recyclability and ice as well as condensation water resistance of the beverage industry. The label sticks to the bottle in cold or warm in humid or dry conditions and comes off easily in recycling.
In the area of building technology, we offer multilayer thermal insulation systems for insulating all types of building exteriors. Ceresit products are mutually compatible and lower building energy use – and our customers’ energy costs – by up to 50 percent. Mutual compatibility of the products ensures easy application and modern design, together with long life and high performance. Ceresit Impactum, for example, offers exceptional resistance to both weathering and mechanical stress and guarantees excellent thermal insulation.
The production of blister cards for Pattex 100 % brand solvent-free adhesives is especially resource-efficient, since the materials used – PET foil with 80 percent recycled content and cardboard with more than 90 percent recycled content – reduce the environmental footprint of the blister products.
Liquid Silicone and Liquid Rubber Waterbased are completely free of toxic fumes that may harm human health and environment. Both products do not contain flammable solvents and therefore ensure safe transport and use. The tools required for their application can be easily cleaned with water – no need for other cleaning agents. Liquid Silicone and Liquid Rubber Waterbased are based on state-of-the-art technology and therefore ensure the reliable and durable protection of roofs. Both products have been formulates to the highest health and safety standards.
Acriton 3G highly supports sustainable and fast applied solutions without producing any harm to its environment. Other solutions in the market still using high levels of VOCs, which help them to dry faster. These VOCs emit smog-forming chemicals into the air and thus, become the major contributor to ground-level ozone pollution. These release low-level emissions into the air for years after the application. And the major source of these toxins is a variety of volatile organic compounds, which, until recently, were essential to the performance of exterior roof coatings. But now, Acriton 3G is produced with 0 percent VOC and it dries very fast without using any blowing agents, therefore it is a substantial contributor to our sustainable approach. Furthermore, it also reduces the interior temperature of a room under the ceiling, thanks its reflectivity characteristics.
Truly innovative products don’t stop with the formulation. Thomsit’s innovative levelling compounds therefore have a new PE packaging. 100 percent PE – with all the unique advantages this material offers. The whole bag, specially developed by Thomsit, is made of plastic. It is up to 10 times more tear-resistant than a traditional paper bag with an interior plastic lining. Moreover, it is fully waterproof, moisture repellent and dustproof. The new packaging also makes good ecological sense because the production of the bags consumes less energy. Moreover, the bags create less waste and can be recycled more easily than traditional paper/plastic bags.
The Cachaça project was recognized as one of the most sustainable technologies in 2012 by the Chile Verde initiative and awarded the Chile Verde 2012 title. The project involves a novel kind of technology developed by Henkel in Chile. In this project, Henkel Chile is replacing the fossil solvents in products of the Agorex and Pritt brands with ethanol. This is derived from sugar cane – just like the well-known Cachaça alcoholic beverage after which the project was named. Ethanol is currently the most environmentally compatible organic solvent. Since 2012, Henkel has also been using the Cachaça technology for products in Brazil.
